As always, our team at Progress Learning has been following along with the latest developments and updating our platform with the new changes.

All new K-12 GA math standards are now live on our platform! Since the start of the 2023-2024 school year, teachers can begin assigning lessons and creating assessments that are 100% aligned with these standards.

Before we talk about how Progress Learning is aligned, let’s quickly walk through what these new standards are and why they were changed.

What Are the New Georgia Math Standards?

According to the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), the new K-12 math standards are Georgia-owned and grown, meaning that the standards were drafted by Georgia educators with input from students, parents, community members, and educational and business leaders.

This was done in an effort to remove all remnants of Common Core and create a new set of standards that are more “age- and developmentally appropriate.” The new standards are designed to provide a stronger foundation at the earliest grades and ensure that new concepts are introduced to students when they’re ready. The amount of content is more balanced and gives teachers more time to teach without feeling rushed. These standards are also less reliant on academic language and provide teachers with new instructional support.

The goal of these standards (and overall mathematics education in Georgia) is to ensure that every student can develop the fundamental strategic mathematical thinking and reasoning skills needed to successfully enter the workforce.

Changes to GA Math Subjects and Standards

The new and updated GA K-12 math subjects and standards have been provided by the GaDOE and are reflected on Progress Learning.
